How NFC Google review cards work

A tap-to-review card turns “please leave us a review” into a single action. Here is what is inside the card, what happens when a customer taps it, and how to get the most out of it.

What NFC is

NFC stands for near-field communication. It is the same short-range wireless technology behind tap-to-pay. It only works when the phone is held right next to the card, which is exactly what you want: the customer deliberately taps, and nothing happens by accident from across the room.

The chip inside the card has no battery. The phone supplies the tiny amount of power it needs at the moment of the tap, so the card never needs charging and keeps working for as long as the card itself lasts.

What happens when a customer taps

  1. 1The customer holds their phone to the card. Usually the top of the phone, against the face of the card.
  2. 2The phone reads the link stored on the chip. This takes a fraction of a second.
  3. 3Your Google review page opens. The customer picks a star rating, writes a few words if they like, and posts.

From the customer’s side it feels like magic: three seconds from tap to review, without hunting for your business on Google.

Why one tap beats a link or a sign

A printed link has to be typed. A follow-up email gets buried. A sign by the door gets ignored. A card in the customer’s hand, offered right after a good experience, removes the friction at the exact moment they are most willing to help. That is why tap-to-review cards work best as part of a personal ask, not as a substitute for one.

Programmed before they ship

There is nothing to set up. We program every card with your Google review page before it ships, so your cards work the moment they arrive.

  • By default, every card in your order is set to the business you order under.
  • Need cards for other businesses too? We can split one order across as many different businesses as you like, one business per card.
  • Email CLHBMD@gmail.com with each business and how many cards it needs.

Getting the most from your cards

  • Give one to every person who serves customers, so the ask happens naturally at each station or table.
  • Keep a card at the register for the moment of payment.
  • Hand the card over; don’t just leave it lying around. A personal ask is what gets people to tap.
  • Wipe cards down with the rest of the counter. PVC cleans easily.
